The AMATEUR BOAT BUILDERS ASSOCIATION (ABBA) is a community of passionate boat builders and restorers, utilising timber, aluminium, fibreglass and other materials. About half the members currently have projects under way, ranging from dinghies to ocean going yachts and historic rebuilds. Others have either completed boats, are restoring classics or just have an interest in things nautical. Owning a boat is not a requirement to join, just a desire to enjoy, share and promote an appreciation of boats of all shapes and sizes. ABBA was incorporated in 1972.
Regular meetings are held on the FIRST WEDNESDAY of every EVEN month (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct & Dec) at the South of Perth Yacht Club, 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start, featuring a guest speaker or other topic of interest, and provide an opportunity for members and guests to catch up, ask for advice and share progress reports on current projects. Members also receive a bi-monthly electronic copy of our Journal, containing details of current activities, articles of interest and coming events. Previous editions of Journal are available for download from this website.
Non-members are always welcome; ask for one of the committee members listed over if you dont know where to start. Toolbox are visits to members' projects, practical demonstrations at commercial premises or other events of interest take place at the beginning of every ODD month, usually on a Saturday afternoon. This website is continually updated with details of upcoming events and other information. Have a look at the Journals section to see the wide range of informative topics that have been covered, the varied and interesting places we have visited and the diverse range of projects undertaken by our members.
